Fishing
The fishing season begins the last weekend
in April. The four lakes along the June Lake Loop (June Lake,
Gull Lake, Silver Lake, and Grant Lake) are loaded with Rainbow,
Brook, and Brown Trout. Rush and Reverse Creeks offer miles
of stream fishing. Jumbo trout are regularly caught throughout
the loop. I like the inlet to Grant Lake best, but there is
a favorite spot just waiting for YOU to discover.
June Lake Marina
Established in 1920 when some wise sportsman figured out that
this quiet, natural glacial lake happened to be Trout Fishing
Heaven. Boat Launching, Rental, Bait & Tackle, and more
can be found here.
Hiking/Climbing
There is no shortage of climbing opportunity in the June Lake
Loop. From roadside bouldering problems to ultra-serious mixed
alpine routes - this area has it all. Danger is ever present
here due to the extremely steep nature of the region. There
are several guidebooks available with detail of climbing routes.
Here are some selected peaks:
Carson Peak (el. 10,909 ft)
Banner Peak (el. 12,945 ft)
Mt. Ritter (el. 12,242 ft)
Camping
Summer time has lots of great camping - close enough to a
town full of amenities, but tucked just far enough away to
feel secluded.
